> How IR teams get Google AI Overviews and AI Mode to show the latest quarterly results: fix the cited page, label GAAP and adjusted figures, request a recrawl.

Getting Google AI Overviews to show your latest quarterly results means making the new quarter the clearest, most crawlable answer on the pages Google already trusts for your company. Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode build answers from indexed pages and link to them. So do ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot. When they show last quarter, the fix is almost always a page on your IR site, a press release mirror or a data site. It is rarely the engine itself.

**TL;DR:** Find the exact page each engine cites. Publish the new quarter as plain HTML with the quarter in the title, URL and first sentence. Mark old quarter pages as historical and link them to the new one. Put "GAAP" or "adjusted" in the same sentence as each figure. Update the sitemap lastmod, request indexing in Google Search Console, then ask the same questions again.

## Why does Google AI Overviews show last quarter's results?

Google AI Overviews shows last quarter's results when an older page answers the question better than the new one. Most IR sites keep every quarter online, often with the same page layout and nearly the same wording. If the new release is a PDF, sits behind a script, or has a vague title such as "Financial results", the old quarter's HTML page can still look like the best match. Third party pages add to the problem. Data aggregators and news mirrors often rank well and may still carry the prior quarter for days after a release.

## Does Google need special markup to use my results in AI Overviews?

No. Google Search Central's page on AI features and your website (checked September 2026) says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. A page must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet in Google Search. That means the basics decide the outcome: the page can be crawled, it is not blocked by robots.txt or a noindex tag, and the answer is written in text, not only in an image or a chart.

## Which page is Google actually quoting?

Start by asking Google the questions investors ask, such as "What was [company] revenue last quarter?" or "What is [company] full year guidance?". Then open every source link in the AI Overview and in AI Mode. Write down the URL, the figure it shows and the quarter it refers to. Do the same in ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, because each engine retrieves on its own. This list is your repair list. Our guide on [how to correct wrong financial figures in ChatGPT](/blog/correct-wrong-financial-figures-chatgpt/) walks through the same method for ChatGPT.

## How should the new quarter's page be written?

Write the new quarter so a single passage answers the question on its own. A few rules help:

- Put the quarter and fiscal year in the page title, the URL and the first sentence.
- State the headline figures in the first paragraph as text, not only in a table image.
- Publish an HTML version of the release, not only a PDF.
- Give each figure its unit, period and basis in the same sentence, for example "revenue of $4.6 billion for the third quarter of fiscal 2026, up 6% from a year ago".

These are the passages engines lift into answers. A clear sentence beats a long table that needs context to read.

## How do you stop old quarter pages from competing?

You do not need to delete old releases. Investors and analysts still use them. Instead, make their status plain. Add a short line at the top of each old results page, such as "Historical results. See the latest quarter", with a link to the new page. Keep one "latest results" page that always holds the newest quarter, and link it from the IR home page and the main menu. That gives Google a stable, well linked page that carries the current answer every quarter.

## How should GAAP and adjusted figures be labeled?

Label every figure as GAAP or adjusted in the same sentence as the number. AI answers often mix the two. An engine may quote adjusted EPS as if it were GAAP EPS, or pair a GAAP figure with the adjusted growth rate. SEC Regulation G requires companies that publish a non-GAAP measure to present the most comparable GAAP measure and a reconciliation. On the web page, that means writing "GAAP diluted EPS of $1.12" and "adjusted EPS of $1.30", not "EPS of $1.30" in one place and the reconciliation far below.

## Where does the SEC filing fit in?

The Form 8-K with the earnings release exhibit (Item 2.02) and the Form 10-Q or 10-K are the primary sources. They live on SEC EDGAR, which engines crawl and often cite. Link from your results page to the exact EDGAR filing, and use the same figures and wording as the filing. When your page and the filing match word for word, an engine has two strong sources that agree. When they differ, even by rounding, the engine has to choose, and it may choose wrong.

## How do you get Google to recrawl the new page quickly?

Google does not publish a timeline for AI answers, so speed comes from helping Google find the page. Three steps help:

1. Update the sitemap with an accurate lastmod date. Google says it uses lastmod when the date is consistently accurate (Google Search Central, sitemaps documentation, checked September 2026).
2. Use the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console to request indexing of the new results page and the updated latest results page.
3. For Bing, which grounds Microsoft Copilot, submit the URLs in Bing Webmaster Tools or through IndexNow.

Then wait for the recrawl before you judge the result. See [how long IR website fixes take to reach AI answers](/blog/how-long-ir-website-fixes-take-to-reach-ai-answers/) for the checks that matter while you wait.

## How long do corrections take to appear in Google AI answers?

No one can promise a fixed pickup time for a correction in Google AI answers. Google does not publish a timeline for recrawling a page or for changing answers in Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot do not publish one either. Google Search Central's page on [AI features and your website](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/ai-features) (checked September 2026) sets no extra requirements for AI surfaces. So the work is crawl access, indexing, snippet eligibility and clear text. Track the checks below instead of guessing a date. Other Google Search Central documents used here: [robots.txt](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/robots/intro), [sitemaps](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/sitemaps/build-sitemap) and [canonical URLs](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/consolidate-duplicate-urls), all checked September 2026.

### What should you verify before you wait for a recrawl?

Six checks decide whether Google and other engines can pick up a correction: crawl access, canonical tags, sitemap lastmod, HTML availability, source links and later answer changes.

| Check | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Crawl access | robots.txt allows Googlebot, OAI-SearchBot and Bingbot, and the page has no noindex tag. Test the live URL in Google Search Console. |
| Canonical tags | One self-referencing canonical per page, matching the sitemap and internal links. Google treats canonicals as hints, so make the signals agree. |
| Sitemap lastmod | Change lastmod only when the page really changed. Google uses it when the dates are consistently accurate. |
| HTML availability | The quarter, the figures and the GAAP or adjusted label appear as text, not only in a PDF or chart image. |
| Source links | List every page the engines cite and note who controls it. Link your results page to the exact EDGAR filing. |
| Answer changes | Re-ask the same questions in each engine and log what changed, including answers that shift on their own. |

### How do you log the evidence for a correction?

An evidence log keeps one dated row per question and per engine, from the first check to the re-check. Use the same question wording each time, and never overwrite an old row.

- Date: the day the answer was captured, plus the engine or surface.
- Original answer: the answer text, quoted, and the URL the engine linked to.
- Supporting source: the page the answer came from and its last updated date.
- Filing comparison: the figure in your filing with the form and item, such as Form 8-K Item 2.02 or Form 10-Q, and whether the answer matches.
- Site change: the exact change you made and the date it went live.
- Re-check result: correct, outdated or wrong, with the date of the re-check.

Add a new row at each re-check, even when nothing changed. The log shows what investors were told on a given day, what you changed and what the answer became. It also gives the disclosure committee a dated record of the fix.

## What about ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot?

The same page fixes help every engine, but each has its own crawler. ChatGPT search uses OpenAI's OAI-SearchBot, and Microsoft Copilot relies on the Bing index. Check that robots.txt and any bot protection on your IR site allow these crawlers as well as Googlebot. If a firewall blocks them, the engines can only quote other sites about your results, and those are the pages most likely to be out of date.

## How do you check that the fix worked?

Ask the same questions again on every engine after the recrawl, and compare each answer with the filing. Record the date, the engine, the answer, the cited URL and whether the figure is correct, outdated or wrong. Keep the wording of the questions the same so each check is comparable. This record is also useful for the disclosure committee, which may want proof of what investors were told. Our guide to [Regulation FD and AI chatbot answers](/blog/regulation-fd-and-ai-chatbot-answers/) covers that side.

## Who inside the company owns these fixes?

The head of investor relations usually owns the check and the fix list, because IR owns the release and the IR site. The web or digital team makes page changes, such as titles, HTML versions and the latest results page. Corporate communications handles press release mirrors and newswire pages. Finance and legal confirm that every figure and label matches the filing. A short owner list per fix keeps the work moving in the week after earnings, when it matters most.

## How does an Investor Answer Audit help?

An [Investor Answer Audit](/blog/what-is-an-investor-answer-audit/) does this check for you after each earnings release. MS House asks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Microsoft Copilot the questions real investors ask about your company, checks every answer against your SEC filing and traces each wrong answer to the page it came from. Within 48 hours your team gets the wrong and outdated answers by engine, the filing quote with the right figure, and a fix list ranked by impact with an owner for each fix. See the full format in the [sample audit](/sample-audit/), or read how we check answers in the [methodology](/methodology/).

## Frequently asked questions

### Does Google AI Overviews use my quarterly results page?

It can, if the page is indexed and eligible to show in Google Search with a snippet. Google AI Overviews links to the pages it used, so check those links first. Make the newest quarter the clearest passage on the page.

### Why does Google AI Mode still show last quarter?

It is most likely quoting an older page that still matches the question well. Find the cited URL, update it or label it as historical, and link it to the new quarter.

### Do I need special optimization for AI features in Google Search?

No. Google Search Central says there are no extra requirements for AI Overviews or AI Mode. Crawlable pages, indexing, snippet eligibility and clear content are the work.

### How fast do AI answers update after an earnings release?

Google does not publish a timeline. Speed depends on when Google recrawls the page. An accurate sitemap lastmod and a URL Inspection request in Google Search Console help Google find the new page sooner.
